Wingrove always built in 1:15 scale so as to ensure that everyone knew that every part on his models was scratch-built as noboby manufactured 1:15 kits.
While his engine, chassis and drive train work is emplary, I've always been disappointed that he did not detail his interiors. While the paint work is very good, painting a seat to look upholstered is not the same as actually upholstering it.
Wingrove's pieces are some of the most expensive scale models ever sold with his Duesneberg Chassis taking nearly $20,000 at the Christies Pebble Beach auction in 2004.
Gerald and his wife left England some years ago and moved to Spain after he announed that he was retiring from model building. It appears that he's now come out of retirement. His work can be seen here at Home Page.
I also highly recommend his books which are available both here (Barnes*&*Noble.com - All Product Search: gerald wingrove) and on eBay.

I now realize I should have been more specific.
Sorry you do not like the interiors Andy, but I never did find a 1.15 th size cow for the leather, - anything bigger kills the character of the rest of the miniature. It is an interesting point that when ever someone sees the actual model, they all (if I cannot stop them in time) try and press the seats down and are surprised when they actually find out that they are solid and only painted.
By the way I built in 1.15th scale because some one asked me to build in something bigger than 1/20th and include engine detail, and I thought the logical step was 1/15th as 1/10th was too big. It was only many years later that I found that Ettore Bugatti actually drafted his plans in 1/15th scale, so I felt that I had made a good choice. regards, Gerald
By the way, Apple will be closing down their Mobileme - .Mac - web.me.com server (same server different names) next year, so the above ‘Home Page’ link will not work - you can now find my web site at Home Page or www.wworkshop.net. Gerald
Hello Gerald,
To know beautifully it here at board. I admire your models for many years.
Particularly also for the reason, since my preferential yardstick 1:16 is and is not this as far as away from their.
Many details of my models I could infer from your models, since one gets to see these rare at originals.
Welcome to the forum, Gerald. I've been an admirer of yours since I first saw your work in the 70's. I've learned a great deal from you over the years. Thanks for sharing your extensive knowledge.

Mr. Wingrove,
You are the reason that I got into scale metal models. I haven't gotten a lot done the last few years because school took much of my model building time. I've looked over your website for hours at a time before I finally bought a lathe and then a mill a few years ago (before I went back to school). Since I finally graduated with my Masters degree this summer, I'm hoping to get going again this winter and move forward with a couple of ideas. My one (and only) model so far is documented here: www.firesteelhobbies.com.
