My pal "Old" Don will tell you that I should build something with what I've got rather than keep asking for new stuff. He's right, but I'm gonna rant some more about my wish list.

When building in 8th scale, we've got three basic engine choices, the flathead, the small block Chev and the Hemi. I'll agree, these are great engines and there's a ton of add-on parts, but I want more. I'd like to see a Buick nailhead, a Cadillac, a big block Chev, a variety of Fords including a small block (you listening Garey), a SOHC, a hemi head Ford modular motor and more. For those of us who are building rat rods, an inline six would be really cool.

I know Don's gonna rag on me again and tell me to build something. OK pal, I'm gonna do just that as soon as those much anticipated parts arrive from you know who. Donald I guarantee you, my next couple of builds will get you off my case for a long while. But in the meantime I'd like our creative geniuses to give some thought to giving us a bigger variety of engine choices.

    How about it guys.

I always thought the Jag engine could be worked into an Offy. But that would be more for a race car build!

Those engines are already in the works but I have so much on my worktable to get to and the fact that I work slow helps to delay things a bit. I have several builds going at one time including my Celebration Deuce, Frankendeuce and a nostalgic build and they're generally heavily labor intensive. I'm also working on a number of tutorials where I'm trying to simplify some pretty aggressive techniques so everyone has a chance to accomplish them. Each time I hit a problem with a technique, I've got to go back to the drawing board and refine it until it'll work for the majority of members we have. The fact that I will be going in for hip surgery in June doesn't help either. (I hope they don't stick me in a physical rehab facility for a couple of weeks.) There's a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes and few folks to do it all. We've got some new members with incredible amounts of talent who will also contribute to the offerings. As soon as Dan gets his shop completely put together and functional, he'll become a full time employee of SMC and some of the parts will start to roll off the assembly line. It'll really be well worth the wait.

Rick, ol' buddy.....consider backing off the sugar a bit dude......maybe plain old fashioned black coffee instead of the designer whipped cream topped stuff and an English muffin instead of those sugar glazed donuts would help?

    Here's the deal big guy.......
Everyone has a wish list and as Jeff said there are a number of goodies in progress. We are fortunate enough to have a few members that are up to the task of starting with nothing and providing the masters to have parts cast and make them available to everyone at a reasonable price. The guys that are putting in the time, effort, skill and are asking little or nothing in return.

I know what it takes to create a master for a detailed, high quality, scale engine. It's one thing to scratch build a part, it's another to be able to cast and pull it from the mold without destroying the mold.

Nuff of all that, to get back on track.....if you want it and can't build it, start a thread (with my approval) stating that you will pay x amount of dollars for a master of such and such upon your acceptance of said master...the master will belong to you exclusively to do with as you see fit. Require that the master be posted as an in progress build on the forum, kind of a Rick sponsored contest if you will.

For the rest of you members.....No, I'm not telling Rick to put up or shut up, I just think it might be motivation enough for some of you guys to try your hand at building what you need rather than depending on the after market guys to do it for you.......Heck, look at how far Jeff and Syd come in less than a year, if you didn't have the desire you wouldn't be building models to start with.

So, there you go Rick...nanny, nanny, boo, boo.
Grandpa McGurk.....Steppin' Large and Livin' easy.

Hmmmmmmmmmm. Or maybe cut a chunk off the Jag block, add an Ardun head......sounds like the makings of a cool fantasy four banger for a Track T.
Offys were used in a number of bucket builds in the ol' days, not just race cars. Geoff...got the the time to fool with a banger?

Haven't really got th time to work on a banger. But I do have a 1/8th Jag engine for that furture project I don't know about, yet.
Actually getting stuff together for an NNL type show I am involved with on the west coast (Perth) here. The organisers are Alan Barton (Ausbodies) and his good wife Ute. They are my closest friends, but live on the other side of the country.
I will be going over to Perth for 2 weeks next month and am really looking forward to it, as it is always a great time!
