I know that kit. I started one of those back in 1978 and and reworked it years later. That's one fantastic kit. Steve, if you're doing one of those, I can't wait until I see what you do with it.

Thanks Jeff. I felt I needed a break from Deuces, et al. I had all these 1:12 Tamiya Need instructions for Tamiya 1:12 Datsun 240Z kits so I thought I'd brfeak them out. If I do build it my plans are to make it stock except for wheels and color scheme - inluding engine bay. Also, I hate those wheel well flares and anything that says "Fairlady".

I think I remember your posts on SA regarding your 240Z.

One of the things I did for that kit was to cast up some knock off hubs out of base metal. Nothing beats real metal. Of course I was still active duty and had access to a torch, oven and good casting Need instructions for Tamiya 1:12 Datsun 240Z machine in the dental lab. Ah, those were the days.

What kind of wheels will you be adding? I also know what you mean about those goofy fender flairs.

not sure on the wheels. I have many, many 1:12 kits to choose from. I know I will get some flack from the purists, but I also may be doing a Porsche slant nose, using the 934 rear and 935 nose. I thought it would make an ultimate grocery-getter. Maybe Lambo wheels...

Forget about the purists. They ain't building this go getter. The 240 is old enough to deserve whatever you can throw at it. We also know that whatever you do will be in good taste.

I have the same 240 ZG kit on the drawing board and currently obtaining the needed swap out parts. Replacing the stock engine with the V8 from Monogram's 1/12th scale Camaro kit. Keep the flares but mold them into the body (think Tamiya Need instructions for Tamiya 1:12 Datsun 240Z 934 fender flares). Toss the stock tires & wheels and use treaded tires from the 934, Lola, Lotus 49 Ford or the MS11 kit. Basically use the correct tire(s) that will fill the wheel well and flare. Fire up the lathe and create aluminum wheels and mate them to undetermined wheel centers. Replace the stock rear axle with the 9" axle from the Monogram Camaro kit. Replace the stock seats with 934 seats and convert the dashboard to left hand drive. Add in a four point roll cage and carbon fiber decals to the interior. In my mind, that is a good start for an weekend ice cream getter. Lets not forget the resins parts that just came in to make the nose longer!!!
