I know this isn't a large scale airplane, but it will be very detailed in every way I can think of. I've ordered Eduards Photo Etch Kits, True Details Resin B-17 Flying Fortress parts, Squadron B-17 Flying Fortress Canopies, and as you can see by the pictures below, scratch building a lot of components. All flight surfaces will move as well.

Picture 1 - Tail Wheel Assembly before soldering together
Picture 2 - Tail Wheel Assembly soldered up and in place. The jack screw support was too big so I made another one.
Picture 3 - Tail Bulkheads, Tail Wheel Housing ready for paint. I'll make the canvas after the housing is installed
Picture 4 - Elevator hinge components
Picture 5 - Elevator attached to the Horizintal Stab with a hinge pin
Picture 6 - Elevators in the down position
Picture 7 - Elevators in the up position

Thanks to xken for teaching me the art of soldering and working with brass

If anyone has access to B-17 blue prints / drawings, please e-mail me. I would like to borrow them during htis build. Thanks

This is going to be up to you guys on this forum. In your spare time, surf the internet and come up with what B-17G markings I should do. The only thing I ask, is no bare aluminum. We've got plenty of time, so come up with a good one.

    Ha....Thanks Mark.

just so everyone knows, Mark is graduating from UTI in Chicago in 15 days. Moving back home to Michigan, and I'm going to get him working on a few large scale models

Hey Rob. If that's the Monogram B-17 in 1/48, I would definitely consider it large scale. It's 2 feet wide and that's good enough for me. This is one of my all time favorite models and I'm going to follow it as closely as I can.

I can definitely help you with the markings for this B-17. The one I'm doing is from the 100th Bomb Group, 418 BS and it's called Silver Dollar which just happens to be my screen name for LSP. A good friend of mine who passed away a few years ago was the ball turret gunner on Silver Dollar. I belong to the 100th BG Association and I'm familiar with a lot of their aircraft. Some of them have really fantastic histories. Give me a holler and we can go over a few paint schemes.

    Rob,

    Wow, that is impressive already.

What are the yellow pieces in the last photo?

I have to tell Terry Moore about this one.

The yellow pieces are masking B-17 Flying Fortress for the glass, tires, guns, etc. I've never used die cut mask before, so I'm a little skeptical.

    Little more work today. Rear crew door, and tail gunner emergency exit are cutout, and shot some interior green on some of the parts. Now I can start assembling and detailing. ;';;';

    Pictures left to right

Eduards Rear Crew access door in place - I plan on having the door in the open position
Rear crew access door opening in RH Fuselage
Rear crew access door opening from the inside
Tail gunner emergency exit door molded into the kit
Completed Eduards tail gunner door inside
Completed Eduards tail gunner door outside
Tail gunner emergency exit door opening in RH Fuselage - This door will be in the open position
    All parts painted interior green
    Right Hand tail painted
Tail Wheel assembly ready for detailing

Thanks again for looking. I hope I'm not overdoing it with the pictures and progress updates.

I'll definitely agree with that. A pic is worth --well, you know.
