G'day Rob. It's about time I got in here to tell you how much I'm blown away by the fantastic work you're doing. I've been watching your work of art coming together, I love it but I just can't bring myself to build a flying machine. I'm getting more pleasure out of just watching your build. Those LED's are great. I'm going to replace the "grain of wheat" bulbs in my half built 1/6 Suzuki Katana (one day), and turn on a few more lights also.

Keep up the brilliant work mate.

Id say more on the tips, they always suffered more than the rest of the blade, remember they often operated from unmade grass strips not always nice made runways.
Great work though man.....as always!

I started the Flap Pockets before I left last week. The pockets were completed on 1/31/11




After some filling and sanding , I decided to slap some primer on the wings and see how bad they are. WOW, do I have a lot of work to do.

Have not had time to do any work on the Fort. I'm still spending my weekdays in Grand Rapids. Oh well.. There is light at the end of the tunnel, and I am employed. Life is good.....

When I started doing the flaps, I decided that I needed to make the wings look a little more realistic. It lacked rivets.
This is what a B-17 wing really looks like. Thousands of rivets and their not flush!


Last week I received a package from Archer Transfers. I under estimated what I needed so I will probably have to order more. I'll complete the first wing, then order more.

These are applied just like Decals. No worry about silvering because I'm painting over them anyhow.

Ahaaaaaaaaa !! sSo that's how it's done. I was going to use a riveting tool to make those. That should look a lot more realistic.

Hey Rob. I went and picked up a bunch of those resin rivets for myself. My LHS just got them in. I even got the access panels and doors. Now I have to get all the electric stuff.

I have not had a lot of time to work on the Fort. I've been working 70+ hours a week, I had the flu the beginning of this week. Enough excuses... Back too work in the shop. Still working on rivets on the engine nacels.

Do those just get a flatting agent to hide the film? Whats next?

They shouldn't need anything to hide the film. The film gets covered by the paint. This is one place you have to be very careful how you put down the paint. You don't have a lot of room for sanding . I'l be covering my B17 with aluminum foil. I still have to figure out how to get some overlapping panels without seeing any lumpy edges.

Look who's back. The B-26 has been gone for a month, I finally got the shop cleaned up, I'm not traveling anymore (for now) so it's back too work. I want to get this done so I can start a new project......... More on that later. Try and guess.....

The RH Wing rivets are complete. I need to figure out a way to mask the fibre optic wing tip lights so I don't primer and paint on them. Any ideas?

I would think that using a liquid mask applied carefully with a small brush could work. Your LHS should probably have some, or otherwise, a craft store probably would if you don't already have some. It's great stuff. Just apply it, wait for it to dry, paint, and carefully peel it off when you're done.
