An easy way for our non-gear head members to tell the early 392 etc. from the latter 426
is the location of the distributor/magneto (rear-early......front 426). Also the oil filter location (right rear-early......front left-426).

Good grief Tim....can you narrow that down a bit? Crank mounted blowers (actually the old GMC blower itself was used on diesel truck engines) have been around since you were in diapers. Do you mean the Potvin drag etc. or front mounted blowers in general?
