Can you show what you "chromed" on plastic? How many chemical products did you had to use? Even if I'm not thinking at a build for the moment, it's always interesting to see what's possible.

I have done this in 1999. I have just one pic of the nickel plated Mercedes Benz 540 K Spezial Roadster 1/8 parts. The heat exchanger. First: an electrically conducting paint. Second: copper plating (electrical) Third: nickel plating (electrical). You have to calculate the suface for the correct current level. Hope my english description is not too bad. Markus

Markus and Roger please excuse me for butting in, Markus, is the final part solely a metal plating or metal plated Mercedes Benz 540 K Spezial Roadster 1/8 plastic?

PS- (I am still torturing bits of Nickle-Silver.)

Don, if I'm understanding correctly, those heat exchanger are plastic parts. This process can be useful with a plastic kit; in my situation, I would just do the part in metal to get it plated Mercedes Benz 540 K Spezial Roadster 1/8 .
I believe Thierry is nickel plating his parts; honestly the letters for my model could have been nickel plated Mercedes Benz 540 K Spezial Roadster 1/8 , there would have been less drama with the chrome processing!

Sorry Markus, you were quicker to answer! Your process is similar to the one used to plate damaged (corroded) pot metal parts. Once the pores are filled up with the filler of your choice, the part is sprayed with a conductive paint, then a thick copper coat is added electrically (to avoid more pores from the pot metal) and finally chromed. When I restored my '56 Biarritz, I sent many parts to a company in Florida to plate them with this process. It was an expensive proposition and finally, some parts were good, some were not. Nothing can replace undamaged pot metal parts plated Mercedes Benz 540 K Spezial Roadster 1/8 at the factory!

I knew I should not have checked this forum before I went to sleep! (1:30am my time) Check with Jo, but I believe that a part fabricated out of wax, jewelers wax, can be polished with graphite, making it conductive and then be plated Mercedes Benz 540 K Spezial Roadster 1/8 . The wax is available in sheets and rods, and "shapes", and the plating if thick enough can be peeled off. allowing a fabricated metal part.

Roger, can you be induced to explore Nickle-Silver?

It does polish up nicely, though it does not look like Chrome. (Maybe it would never be something that you would need?)

    Again, thank you Markus!

Take care of yourself, Don. I think polished Nickel-Silver looks like stainless steel.
To Roger: Please remember it was in 1999. Today i would also do parts in metal.

To get a silver , copper or gold surface I did it always by galvanic.
The longer time in galvanic bath the thicker was the plate result.

But there are also other ways possible without needed current in galvanic method
