Protar 1/12 scale Fiat 806

Hello Mario:

Here some pictures of my scratchbuilt 1/8 Fiat 806. I can say I have 60% of the car built. Tomorrow I will start the engine and with the body. I just made arround 800 diferent parts and I think I will build another thousand. I never thought in this amount of parts.
I am squeezing my brain because I don´t know how can I cut the trunk lids louveres. I am thinking on the photoetch process or modify a can opener but..... Any ideas??

There is a nice tutorial in the books of Gerald Wingrove. The second book has a more elaborate explanation.

Basicly it is rolling or pressing a D-shaped wheel through the metal sheet, with a suitable backing to prevent too much deformation. He used a small handpress for that. Those presses are also sold here in NL at a large machine trader (for about nothing, I believe 50 euros or so).

Used in jewelry making and much more.

A drill press could work also.

I have Mr. Wingrove´s books and I saw his system to make louvres. I sent him an email asking about this problem and he wrote me that the best and esay way is the photoetch process.

I am looking for information trough the internet about this process. Also I am looking for a good used press. I hope to find a Prestacon press like gerald Wingrove has.

Since the Bianchi motorcycle was finished, I've been working on the Fiat....

Some images of the rolling chassis, with the engine in place.....believe it or not, the engine is still missing 40% of its parts....

Very nice! I gave my Fiat 806 (in dire need or restauration) away to Ton (the one that is building the Promocom kit). In trade he will build my Bugatti typ 57S Atlantic.

Regrettably there is no more update on this post. Just got the kit from the seller today. Unfortunately the manual is missing

I got some pieces of the same Protar kit but missing a lot of pieces such as the wheels and the motor hood. The motor is ready but it's a mess, everywhere there's glue on it. So i think i'm gonna build another one if italeri can provide on for me. Must say yours is a beautiful car even without the bodyworks.

Hello everybody ! What I can see here on this thread is very nice and neat ! But it´s not the real car . It´s not your fault of course that Protar created a completely wrong kit ( and Italeri just reissued this wrong Protar kit ) Protar copied the model that´s shown in the Centro Storico in Turine . This model is based on plans of a pre-study ( most likely for a car with the 451 2-stroke engine .) If someone is interested in building a realistic model or has questions regarding history and technical aspects , please ask ! This car was a milestone and should get reconstructed as realistic as possible imho .

what do you mean by "completely wrong"? The period pictures of the 806 available on the internet plus the blueprint in "Le grandi Fiat" indicate that the Protar/Italeri model is not so bad. The radiator grill is too long and not wide enough, the floor tank is too low. But the overall impression isn't bad. I have the Protar model waiting for building, and I'm interested in all the info I can come by. If you have details, please let the guys on the forum know.
