For some reason the other thread was closed by the administrators so I'll start this one up. Hopefully it can stay open throughout the build.

All of the activity since the last update has been on the radiator. The highlight of this sub-assembly is that the shutters will open and close by turning a knob on the dash board.

The first few photos below show rough fabrication. Photo #2 shows the 1:6 shell next to a Pocher 1:8 radiator shell. The 3rd and last photos show the radiator screen that sits immediately behind the shutters with the rest of the pictures show the shutters themselves being fabricated and everything being fit together. The two front photos at the end show the shutters in both the closed and open positions respectively.

Once I've got the open/close mechanism designed, built and working i'll complete that back side of the sub-assembly and with that done the radiator / front grill will be done and ready for chrome plating.

      I'll post more photos soon.

      Andy.

Andy, Great looking brass work! That model will weight a ton by the time you are done! By the way the thread you started is not closed. Go to the "large scale forum" down at the bottom is a list of pages, it is on page two. When you do not post for awhile the postings get bump down the list.

Keep up the great job! Ken

I found it ken and it's listed as closed. I couldn't add any responses to the thread. In terms of the RR and it's weight I'm rather concerned about that. It's going to get to a point where I won't be able to lft it myself! I'm using aluminum where I cam, but there is still going to be a lot of brass in her.Oh well... It's still fun working in this big scale. How have you been?

Andy, That is odd but I am not a computer whiz so anything can happen. I have been teaching myself CorelCAD and now have another tool in the ole toolbox. Had to learn it to provide part files to Model Expo to laser cut and photo etch parts. If you get to the point of needing multiple cast (white metal) parts check out White Metal Casting Bob cast the parts for the buckboard and the quality was such that I could thread a 00-90 1:6 Rolls-Royce Phantom II brass nut on the round headed bolts he cast. He needs brass or aluminum masters.

I bet you have one of those hydrogen torches don't you? Those are the ticket for what you are up to.

Now get back to work and start you exercise program to lift that puppy.

Ken - I do have a hydrogen torch and it's the greatest tool on the bench. I could not build this RR without it. Egon - yes I am making the shutters work and any pics you have and would like to share would be greatly appreciated.

Andy here is another source for various metal stocks, not sure if you are aware of them or not. You can purchase by the inch if necessary.

Speedy Metals is good if you are not too far away for shipping costs. They are in Berlin, Wisconsin .
