Found in some prototype competition cars, a new steering wheel was made for the Alfa...
The prototype wheel was a bit smaller in diameter, had a more "hefty" look overall, with wider arms and rim and had that "vintage look" I tried to reproduce...
The nucleous was made from 0.6 mm thick brass sheet, drilled and cut with a jewellers saw...then turned precisely on the lathe and radially polished....
The rim was made glueing 4 wood veneers on each side of the nucleous and turned using only sandpaper of variable grades...many coats of acrylic
laquer and then polished with very fine
steel wool
...
All the parts seen in the pics were turned from brass bar and are a tight fit within the steering wheel...even the Pocher advance lever was tricked and blued to resemble the 1/1
counterpart...
Not happy with the kits windshields, I used a K&S
1/8 square tube milled to produce a "U" channel, which grabs the glasses, made from 0,8 mm thick policarbonate that have that glassy look overall with perfect translucency....
The bottom channel was drilled and tapped 00-90
which makes this system fully working...
