With engine work well underway, and the time approaching when I need to install the oil pan, it occured to me that a secure engine stand that would rotate the engine block and allow me to secure it while working on the underside would be a real help.

I used pegs to secure the key joints so that I can disassamble the post and engine clamp when I need to remove the engine from the stand without unbolting the head piece. I also built it in way that allows me to install different head pieces for different engines.

In case anyone else wants to do something like this, I included a simple schematic and the dimensions I used. If you don't have a lathe and mill to do this out of brass (or aluminum), then you can use wood. Just remember to weigh the bottom piece down with some metal pieces so it sits secure on then bench.

      Andy.

I really like that idea alot. It looks like I'm going to have to get off my rear end and make one of these.

BL - if you'll pay for the brass and shipping, I'd be happy to make one for you. If you're serious, I'd be happy to price it out.
