My newest project is an Alfa 8C2300 rolling chassis and display engine. The body will be a Monza, but it's going to be displayed off the chassis.

The engine in the chassis will be fabricated with a magneto start. The display engine will feature the distributor starter.

Hopefully about 9 to 12 months from now, The Satin Doll will have another little sister.

      Andy.

Beautiful work Andy - it's going to look great. Even OOB Alfa 8C Chassis and Display Engine the Alfa chassis looks impressive
and I thought when I did mine a while ago that it seemed a shame to put a body on it - but when I see the craftsmanship that you and other site members display it makes it almost a crime. Look forward to more

My plan is to build a display of the rolling chassis and a second display engine of each of the four Pocher classic marques - Alfa, Royce, Bugatti and Mercedes. With four chassis and eight engines to build, I figure it'll keep me out of trouble for a while.

I should have more pictures to post this weekend.

    Andy.

Got the radiator done. The first two pictures show the evolution from the one that came out of the box, through three prototypes to the final version. The last picture shows the new radiator sitting in the chassis.

Next up - complete suspension and then get started fabricating the gas tank.

Lots of progress on the rolling chassis. Just about ready to start the first engine.

Beautiful!! It was well worth the wait to see this. It already looks lightly weathered.

HFC - One of the first things I do when I have the raw chassis assembled is spray a few coats of white primer Alfa 8C Chassis and Display Engine over the plastic. That way, as I modify the chassis (add supports, lengthen it, etc.) I can easily see any depressions or high spots that require attention. This also helps me clean up any holes that had to be filled (like the ones all over the firewall).

Once the entire rolling chassis, including gas tank, oil tank, radiator, suspension, drive train, front axle and rear axle are done, I start painting that sub-assembly so those pieces can gas out while I begin work on the engine. I like building this way because, among other things, I get a nice "patina" on the scratch-built pieces as the project progresses.

The question then becomes, do I paint the brass or do I leave it exposed?

Thanks Andy. I pretty much do the same thing. Before I'm done with an assembly like an engine block or chassis or body parts, etc, I spray a gray or white primer Alfa 8C Chassis and Display Engine depending on the color of the plastic as a guide coat. It shows me the highs and lows as well as any deep scratches I may have made with some of the very coarse sandsticks and files I use. The heavy scratches are what I'm really after since I can't really see those without the primer Alfa 8C Chassis and Display Engine . I'm usually working that step with a 400 grit stick followed by 600 and then 800 grit paper ised wet. Once the defects are gone and the part is smooth, I respray the primer Alfa 8C Chassis and Display Engine and go from there.

WOW. Just shows what can be done with a Pocher. I like the sep. display of body from chassis. Your brass work as many here is well beyond my humble skills. I will follow this and you have my vote. T:u*****

Thanks BL. My guess is that your skills greater than you think. When I first got my machine tools, I didn't know where to start or what on earth I was doing. But keep this in mind - as long as you don't chuck up a piece of hardened steel and try and take a 4 inch cut, you're unlikely to break anything - so put on your goggles and just start making chips and you'll be amazed how easy it is.

    Andy.
