Beautiful model. I think I built something like that many years ago. It was one of my favorite designs. I love what you did with the engine.

The thread title says it is a Revell 1936 Mercedes Benz 540K 1/16 Revell ... (German brand, perhaps Monogram has the same kit, they share a lot of moulds)

Thanks for the memory jog, Herman. It was the Monogram kit I built years ago. That was really a fantastic kit if I remember.

Looks like my last post got beaten out by a couple of minutes. Now that's what I call a great kit. At a 1/16 scale, it's still a good size. Lots and lots of great potential here.

That's a lovely build of a real classic - just the sort of thing I like!

From the look of those parts pictures it does look the same as the Monogram kit. I've been planning to do it as Herman Goering's 'Blue Goose' which was liberated from the Berchtesgaden by US troops towards the end of WWII.

According to an article in Classic Car Mercedes engineers gave Goering an extra 5 inches in the cockpit (he was a big man) by moving the radiator forward. I've been worrying how to do this but now I see the kit made up it doesn't seem different to the pictures on that web page. So thanks for posting those pics of your model - can anyone else through any light on this?

    Hi Martsmodels,

as far as I know, the Spezial Roadsters had the engine set back compared to the cabriolets A, B and C type. Seems to be, that Mercedes used the cabriolet layout for Goerings car, to provide the fat guy enough space. The shape of the front fenders is also more cabriolet type. There are some prototype cars, which have the Spezial Roadster body with the forward placed radiator, but most of them are rebodied cabriolets.
