Brilliant thread from RR Boat Tail contributor. I've got a box of Pocher RR bits that I have been wondering what to do with.
It's basically just a chassis and wheels. Fortunately the RR Radiator is included, and it's one of the old originals made from soldered brass and plated Pocher Rolls Royce Boat Tail . I also found a small article with a few B&W photos of a Boat tail that was taken at a RR meeting here in England in a company magazine for an adhesives company. It's one of those projects where you store the bits and article for 20 years or more and then see something like your contributors thread that gets the interest going again. Now that I am close to retirement and have just fitted out a nice little workshop it's a project to get stuck into.

The Hornby thing!!!! I spoke to one of the Hornby team at the 2007 ScaleModelworld Show and I was told that they have no immediate plans to resurrect any of the Pocher model kits.
I expect that they have enough to contend with having acquired Airfix recently. The Pochers were simply part of the Rivarossi acquisition to get the model railway stuff, Hornby's core business. Personally I cannot see Pochers being marketed again unless Hornby sell it on maybe to a Chinese company who may be able to keep the cost down.
One thing surprises me about Pocher when they were in business, is that they did not tap into the American market with a Duesenberg SJ Derham bodied tourer or something. It is a model I would dearly would have liked to see them make, but alas that was not to be. Wouldn't that be a beauty in 1/8th scale?
Come on Trumpeter! How about you making some 1/8 or 1/12 scale classics?

I found S Jordan's thread interesting. The Burago Type 59 I agree is 1/16th scale. I have a very old sheet of a Harold Pratley curbside plan that was published originally by Model and Allied Publications here in the UK. The plan as supplied was 1/8th scale, and I had it reduced by half to give me a 1/16th scale plan. The Burago model stacked up well to this.
At the moment, I am in the process of a 90 percent scratch build Pocher Rolls Royce Boat Tail of a Type 59, having robbed the Burago diecast of a number of bits I can use. Particularly the tyres that are the correct Dunlop Racing pattern for the time. They got the wheels hopelessly wrong though.

Noel, I have quite a bit of T59 reference available which I can send you, and you may find some inspiration and information on the following link. The link tells you how to purchase the proper piano wire wheels from a modeler in Italy (I put them on a prebuilt diecast version and they look great; my problem is that the wires are spaced so closely that I can't get through them to detail the spoke holes and screws). His conversion kit also includes a metal front axle that provides the proper camber for the wheels (which needs a bit of filing and polishing). As for the tires, the 1/16 Jaguar SS 100 has Dunlops, though they're a tad skinny but they fit the piano wire wheels with a little extra support added. My biggest question is how the brake levers look on the rear wheels, and how I'm going to build the brake cable chain tensioner on the side of car.

PS - I'd love to see your plans. I don't know if you're planning to build a curbside, but I'm sticking with adapting the Bburago version and doing it as the Clarke/Ludington 59124 car with wings. As I'm sure you know, I'll have to scratchbuild various engine parts such as the carburetor/supercharger assembly, the water pipe across the top of the engine, the brake cable system, etc., in addition to doing something about adding a piano hinge for the bonnet. Removing the rivets that run horizontally along the upper curve of the body may be beyond my capabilities.

Of course, the go-to guy on this forum is Herman, who operates the bugattibuilder.com website.

One additional note about the Bburago wheels – it seems to me that the actual scale of the car varied from model to model because they used the same wire wheels for everything from the Mercedes SSK to the Alfa Zagato Spider. The SSK model parts are too small to rob for my 1/16 Mercedes SS cabriolet kit.

I am present... Did not read the whole thread though.

The Bburago model is 1:15, actually. Nicely the same scale as the majority of the Gerald Wingrove models.

I do not understand Bburago: Their first 1:18 model (the Rolls Royce) was 1:20 (actually they put that on the box).

The 1:18 Bauer Bugatti Royale is 1:16, by the way. Why do all these producers mess with scales?
