I really wanted to post this build for the engine building contest, but it was just nowhere near being done enough to enter. I've gotten a few things done on it so far, but there is a long way to go. The first thing I wanted to tackle was correcting the angle that the intake tubes attach to the plenum. The kit supplied parts have the flanges horizontal, but based on my reference photos, they should be at more of an angle. I hope these pictures show my progess.

I don't believe it! At last somebody has accomplished what I have been attempting for the last three years . I have had some success not too dismilar from your ideas (just not the same quality as you have achieved). I even managed to source some extra manifolds cos I thought I might have to start again!

Can you let us know how you achieved the injector inlets at the mountings of the manifolds! Gonn try and look very closely at your pics...Hope you dont mind!

Trust me Phil, if he didn't want us to pour over his photos, he wouldn't post them.

Folks here love to share their results.

    Phil,
I certainly don't mind. As usual, life has gotten in the way of this build, so progress is painfully slow, but I'd be happy to explain anything you need as I go. I made the injector inlets by cutting short pieces of styrene 1/8th Ferrari Testarossa Motor Buildup rod and carefully sanding 1/8th Ferrari Testarossa Motor Buildup them to match the contours of the intake tubes. I then welded them on with Tenax liquid glue. I left the tops a little long so that once they were dry I could file them down to be level. Once I had filed the round styrene 1/8th Ferrari Testarossa Motor Buildup rods down to the correct height, I cut small tombstone-shaped pieces out of some 1/8" styrene 1/8th Ferrari Testarossa Motor Buildup sheet. I then filed a half-round notch at the correct angle into the back of these pieces and glued them on top of the styrene 1/8th Ferrari Testarossa Motor Buildup rods. Once these were dry, I filled in any remaining gaps and added a few drops of superglue to the intersection between the intake tubes and the styrene 1/8th Ferrari Testarossa Motor Buildup rods to smooth it out a little. A little careful sanding 1/8th Ferrari Testarossa Motor Buildup and there you have it. Ihave pre-drilled some small holes into the tops of the injector inlets to allow for me to add the injectors later once I get to that point. Now that the manifolds are basically done, Finishing off the injector tubes is probably my next step. I've really got to get a move on with this project because I told myself that I can't start working on the 1/8th Cuda until this motor is finished. We'll see how well I can hold myself to that idea.

Hey Steve......... Two years ago the Ridler winner was a Nash station wagon with Ferrari running gear. Heres a challenge for you........drop that Ferrari engine you're building into the Cuda and go all out with it.

I dare you to be different!

Oh yeah, now that would be a unique model. You can call it a Baracari.

That's an interesting thought Rick, but I have different plans for the Cuda. I'm thinking of putting the Testarossa motor into either a deuce or maybe a 'Vette. The Cuda's going to get a 1/8th scale 6.1L Dodge Hemi. Since I only know of the Hawk models 1/6th scale version, I'll probably be making a CAD model and rapid prototyping 1/8th Ferrari Testarossa Motor Buildup it. I think it'll be worth it anyway because I have another project that will need a 1/8th 6.1L hemi.

Hey Steve......you don't have to model the 6.1 liter Hemi.......I already have it done!! I will be bringing it out through TDR 1/8th Ferrari Testarossa Motor Buildup in the near future, after the Big Al.

Tell you what. If you could work up the modern bellhousing and tranny to bolt up behind it and give TDR 1/8th Ferrari Testarossa Motor Buildup the right to sell it, we could print you up the 6.1 Liter engine and tranny for no charge. That might save you some time on your Cuda build.

Tim, That sounds like a plan! I'll start researching the bellhousing and tranny for the modern hemi. My dad has a 2006 Hemi Charger, so I may be able to get some info from him. IIRC, he said that it uses a Mercedes transmission. He found that out when he wanted to check the tranny fluid, and couldn't find the dipstick. As it turns out, there isn't one. They want you to have to take it to a dealer to get anything done on it to avoid people messing with the trans I guess.

I didn't want you guys to think that I had forgotten about modeling the new hemi transmission, so here are a few very early teaser shots. I'm slowly but surely plugging away at it during my lunch breaks at work. I have a 1/25 scale drivetrain out of the Challenger kit that I'm using for ballpark reference, then once I get it roughed in, I'll start adding details from photos I could find.

    Ron,
Alas, it sits on my desk awaiting my return. I had been involved in a business start up for almost a year that ate up most of my free time, but i may have some time coming up now. I'm hoping to return to working on it this winter.
