      Hi to everybody,
I'm looking for some help from Italy. I abandoned the hobby about thirty years ago after having assembled many many 1/43 metal kits, mainly AMR, both for me and modelshops. Work, family, children, I suppose many are in my condition. I was - and hope I still am - only able to assemble, no scratchbuilding though I always greatly admired those of you able to start from nothing. I finally decided to restart because I have an unbuilt 1/12 Protar Fiat 806 in my garage since 1978: was getting tired of 1/43 and always liked larger scale, but I had to leave it where it is. It had been partially initiated by a fellow who soon got tired without even damaging it too much, that's why I could afford to purchase it at half its price. A couple of months ago I said now or never, looked for info about the car here and there, bought some of the watchman tools I no longer had and then happened to find a built 1/12 Protar Mefistofele that I immensely liked then as well as now. Decided to start with this one - more info and photos available, car still exists: I partially dismantled it and will redo it because it was assembled without heart: sufficient paint work on metal, no paint on most of plastic (radiator grille is so ugly) and no deburring at all, etc. I only detailed three tires to see if my hands are still a bit good, seems so but oh my eyes...It was surely assembled with the Loctite tube supplied with kit: luck for me, some styrene 1/12 Protar FIAT Mefistofele pieces I could separate with tons of attention and some cold sweat/weight loss. But I stopped in front of the engine: too many small pieces, too much risk.

Any tricks for removing Loctite from styrene 1/12 Protar FIAT Mefistofele ?

No problem with paints, Ialways used nitrocellulose and can still find it, no problem also with putty 1/12 Protar FIAT Mefistofele , always used bicomponent bodyfiller sparingly.

No problem removing paint, brake oil or Chanteclair (a household degreaser) will do, but also read of "Polyscale Easy Lift Off Remover". Is it so good, where can I find it?

Also, would like to try different metallic 1/12 Protar FIAT Mefistofele paints to find the tones I prefer, only have some Modelmaster and Humbrol enamels. I use a Badger 200 airbrush 1/12 Protar FIAT Mefistofele , know of Alclad 1/12 Protar FIAT Mefistofele but also knew of Testors and Floquil and cannot find them here. Does Pactra still exist? Some very nice colors they had.

I read of photoetched 1/12 Protar FIAT Mefistofele chains for motorbikes but do not remember who and where.

I have both ebay and Paypal accts, buying here and there wouldn't be a problem.

So many questions! Attached: some pics of dismantling, hope to start rebuild in decent times...

Oh well, my usual inexperience with pc....posted in the wrong section, had to be in Large Scale Cars probably. If some administrator of the site can help....

Also remade FIAT logo for front grille, and Mefistofele word now appearing on sides of car (added after kit was produced), PDF files attached with different sizes, may be useful to the hundred of people who are restoring this model....Will probably have all other writings reproduced if I can't save decals, and pass them onto you

    Hello Angelo,
just to answer one of your questions, alclad 1/12 Protar FIAT Mefistofele is a fine deal. Needs some training, because there is a perfect surface of the part required.Got best results by using black enamel 1/12 Protar FIAT Mefistofele after priming and polishing the black coating.Never use a gloss coat on alclad 1/12 Protar FIAT Mefistofele , it will dull. There are lots of metallic 1/12 Protar FIAT Mefistofele shades provided by alclad 1/12 Protar FIAT Mefistofele , which makes it easy to replicate different types of metal.
For the photoetched 1/12 Protar FIAT Mefistofele chain...have a look at cosmosfactory.jp.They're doing it for 1/9 th scale. Another source is Acustion, they have got chains for 1/6 th scale as well.

    Cheers
    Michael

Regarding chain, I got some from Grandt Line model railroad supply. The width is about 1/8". Comes in 6" lengths for $8.25

Grazie ad entrambi! Many thanks to both of you! More than useful answers, the hunt starts.
Skip, a couple of days ago you asked me about exhaust wrapping for your Bugatti T59, take a look at pics of original Protar exhaust, the same loosely wrapped with "filo di refe" for bookbinding, and real car. In the background a magazine with an article about Mefi restoration, you'll notice the spool with new cable. Leaf springs too were wrapped with greased hemp, but only in British cars as the Mefistofele in the end is. French and Italian cars were sprayed with a mixture of vaselin oil and graphite (they called the operation "grafitaggio" or "vesuviatura" because of the heavy clouds of oily substance, bottom of cars often received the same treatment before winter). You just have to finish your model and then soil it for good...

    Michael,
Memory is a common problem. You do no longer remember chains, me when I see a nice girl have to go in my pockets and look at the notes....
