Egon - I don't think CNC is going to work on a piece of brass that thin. I think you would be better off to have it Photo Etched. You can get the font perfect, the letters clean and the proper scale size of the piece.

Andym, I couldn't agree with you more about doing it in photoetch. The problem there is finding somebody with the proper skills and is willing to do it, without charging a small fortune. Got any leads on who to go to for getting it done?

There is a laser printing company that can laser etch the script and stain the etched areas in black.
Do it yourself or sub it.

I'm no kemist and don't have the stuf fore etching, allthroug it looks easy on the Steampunk but do comes with a warning.
I have no workshop, i'm sitting in my living room and make my details, not the best place to make something like that etching stuf.
Maby someone are willing to make a buck or two makeing them I think they will sell very well here.
I'll post my latest criation so you can see the way I detail, its for the windscreen to be opend and hold it, the part is from a watch 1,3 mm thick
Perhaps you can see my need for a perfect copy now.

Hi Egan,
I would definitely e-mail images of your part to:
Custom Engraved Brass Signs, Plaques and Tags
I have talked with them on the phone and they are willing to do custom work and are reasonably priced.
I would not worry about the chemicals for etching because they can be neutralized or given to the city chemical recycle department. You can let the liquid dry off in a shallow pan in the sun and dispose of the dry powder very easily.
I am going to send my Stanley Rocket car hubcaps to an acid etcher for the script and then have them nickel- plated Anyone with CNC ? . The script will then be painted with epoxy Anyone with CNC ? paint which is a similar process used for Cloisonné automobile badges.
Regards,
Giovanni

Okay guys.
Now, I'we got a reply from a company who do laser cut and letters on the materials, it's pretty expensive with drawing and setup and so.
A set of plates, upper and lower, will cost about 45 $ + postage.
I intend to go to the company and see a laser test of the small letters on glossy steel with black letters before seting on a production.
What do you all think of the price of such a detailed item, sold on Ebay. ???
