I've been asked to post some more detail of this kit so here goes:

generally fit is good, but detail is lacking in some areas and moulding is rough in some areas - heavy sprue Italeri Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza attachment points in visible areas, sink and ejector marks feature widely in visible areas that are hard to remedy.

Here is a general view of current progress:-

Here are some views of the engine:-

The radiator does have the 80° rake
I have added a fair bit of detail to the base kit,
All 'bolts' (actually indistinct plastic blobs) removed and replaced with resin Italeri Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza items
PE grill added on air intake
Laser litho banjo coupling and braided hose added
All filler caps turned from ali
core plugs and raised surrounds scratch built Italeri Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza
'springs' blow-off valves? added above supercharger
      braided ignition lines added
hose clips added from silver wire
      distributor clips added
copper wire added to inlet manifold

There was a question about fuel tank detail?

      Easily answered! there isn't any

Also engine mount detail is lacking too:-

Here's a shot of the other side of the engine:

I feel like I've given this kit a hard time, I'm enjoying building it and it bears a passing resemblance to the subject matter.
I'm by no means an expert on this vehicle either, so happy with something that looks OK.

I have threatened to turn some wire wheels for it as the kit items aren't great and I have done this before for a large scale fokker triplane, but for now I'll stick with the kit items.

I'm sure someone will produce a transkit for this soon because as a blank canvas, to my eye (with no rulers or rivet counting) it looks OK.

Thanks for your support and hope some of this is of interest.

Please forgive my sloppy out-of-practice modelling skills, first build for about three years!

      Regards,

      Nick

Hi everyone, calling my Alfa finished now.

In summary mostly impressed with the kit. Fit was very good overall and the proportions look right to me.

    A few misses:-
As I mentioned earlier, the fuel tank isn't rendered at all in the kit, which I really should have done something about:-

Cockpit floor was a weird made-up chequer plate affair:-

that I replaced with plain ali sheet, not right either I know as it should have raised ribs, but still and improvement over the kit item :-

Quite a few ejector pin marks Italeri Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza in tricky places, and areas of wooly detail, but overall pretty good.

Here's some shots of the finished model:-

I may still have a go at making some wire wheels, haven't decided yet!

Thanks for looking and hope it is of interest.

I have my MFH Brough Superior arriving shortly now I have the bug again.

    Regards,

    Nick

Looks great! You might try drilling the plastic rims and lacing up the wheels with continuous thin flexible wire. I've done it several times with the 1/12 Blower Bentley.

Looks very nice indeed! Beautiful shade of red, may I ask what brand? Airbrushed? or “rattlecan”?

    Thank you for sharing!

    Brough Superior?

    Lucky you!

    Thanks for the compliments folks!

The red is airbrushed and from zero paints https://www.zero-paints.com/ and colour matched exactly for the car and the year, the supplier in the UK is Hiroboy, not sure internationally.

I don't use anything else for cars, the colours are very accurate, they come pre-thinned and are just really nice to use with great pigment Italeri Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza and coverage.

Bear in mind they are all matt and require lacquer Italeri Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza /clearcoat and or polishing to finish.

I too understand the Zero Paint, but what color name? I like your build and attention to detail. There are many, many areas that can be changed to make more accurate. But for the scale as no-body offers in this scale, it is a winner. My only problem is what the market is asking for the kit. I saw one the other day from Japan f/$300.00 plus ship. Before I plop down 3 bills for a 1/12 Alfa, I will go ahead and hit the buy now for a Pocher! Your attention to detail is spot on and the paint job is slick. Thanks for sharing the build. I have a vast collection of OOP Protar kits, though this was never a Protar kit, it is in keeping with the mfg practice. Would love to see a 1/12 1935 Auto Union B Type .
Want to know the color for a 1/8 Alfa I am working on. Everyone wants to paint them red, nix, wrong color. The real color is almost a semi ox-blood. I have had the opportunity to see a real original color Alfa and I can assure it is not bright red. Your color looks very, very close to what I have seen.

    The paint is ZP-1609.

I’m also surprised at the price you are seeing for the kit I paid £149 for mine from Hiroboy in the UK most things I buy like models, camera gear and electronics, end up being about parity $ for £ in my experience regardless of the exchange rate, ie if you pay $300 for something in the US, Typically it would be priced at £300 in the UK.

Thank you for the color number. I will use on a Pocher Alfa I am building. The kit was listed from Japan for the $300.00. So far here in the US the kit is OOS!

I always painted my Pocher Monzas with automotive rattle cans. If you look in the "truck and van" colors section of the auto parts store you can usually find a non- metallic Italeri Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza dark red, sometimes called Carmine.

Beautiful finish on the kit. I have just started modifying bits and bobs and stiring up the confidence to start cutting and changing where appropriate.
You can get the kit for arround £110 on ebay as an import from Germany or Italy ... to the UK

Sorry quick question .... the seat colour ... i have not been able to find reference pictures of the seat ... in colour .. for the number 28 Tazio car ... here you have the seat in black ... was this just a decision you made .. or from pictures ... i am contemplating covering in leather ... as one of the 1/8 scale builders did to good effect
    😀
