I'm planning to build a 1/4 scale Stanley Steamer record breaker made with 260 brass. It will be live steam and RC.
      I'm searching for a blueprint.
I need some wire wheels, too.
      Thanks,
      Giovanni

The Stanley Rocket was originally called the "Tea Kettle" until the newspaper press called it the "Rocket".
I just found someone that has made an operating scale model of the Stanley Rocket steam engine. I am hoping to acquire a set of blueprints to build my engine.
I am casting 1/4 Scale 260 Brass Stanley Steamer Race Car the cylinder head and pistons in silicon brass. Each cylinder bore is 1/2' diameter.
The engine will chain-drive the rear axle and the axle will chain-drive the water pump.
The 5" boiler will be a riveted and silver soldered formed copper sheet.
The boiler fire tubes will be made out of copper tubing as well as the firebox.
    The boiler height is 3".
I need to have some 6" diameter wheels made like in the photo.
    Anyone know
    Regards,
    Giovanni

Giovanni, I did a Google search for "6 inch model airplane wire wheels", and came up with the following result. There is a company called Global Services which sells a R-C model of a SE-5 WWI aircraft. It takes an engine from .45-.60 CI. displacement so it's quite large. Anyhow they supply the wire wheels with the kit, but you can also purchase them separately for $35.00 a pair. Unfortunately they do not specifically state the size of the wheel, but because of the size of the aircraft it should be close to the 6 inch size you are looking for. Take a look at their web site; www.globalservices.globalhobby.com/part/232500.asp. That should take you to the page which lists the wheel for sale. You may have to contact them directly to get the exact size of what they sell.
I know there used to be another company which made wire wheels, but that is from many years ago.
    Good luck in your search.

Try this site for wheels; the link below is for their 64 spoke wheels. Click on the price list to see all the various sizes they offer; however be sitting down when you look at the prices.
Explore around they offer other kinds of wheels as well. Enjoy! Ken

I just found this photo with F.E. Stanley working on his Rocket at Ormond Beach, Florida.

    Giovanni
    P.S.
I have decided to build the Rocket 1/5th scale 38.4" length x 7.2" width.

This is what is going on inside the cylinder:

I finally got a complete set of scale drawings of the Stanley steam engine.
I will be casting 1/4 Scale 260 Brass Stanley Steamer Race Car parts for around 6 complete engines and will offer some machined kits to builders.
Below is a Stanley patent drawing.

    Giovanni

I have decided to bump the Stanley Rocket scale size up to 1/4 scale.
This would make the overall length of 48" and a width of 9".
The twin-cylinder steam engine dimensions will be 3.60" cylinder case width x 10.5" length.
The cylinder bores are 1" diameter.
The silicon bronze cylinder case will be Jet-coated titanium color to simulate cast iron.
This engine should have a real nice sound.
    Regards,
    Giovanni

My wheels are going to be machined from 7" outside diameter heavy-wall aluminum tubing.
The tires will be molded titanium oxide white tires measuring 8.5" diameter.
    The full-scale tires are 34" x 3.5".
Does anyone have a computer graphics image for circa 1906 tires?
I want to mold the sidewall script and tread detail.
    The hubs are bronze.
What diameter stainless steel wire spokes would be adequate?
    Thanks,
    Giovanni

    Hello Giovanni,
you asked for the diameter of the spokes.
In what scale will be the model?
In every reply to the topic there is written another scale from 1/4 down to 1/8.
I use 0.4mm stainless steel insect pins for my motorcycle models in 1/8 or 1/9 scale.
Here is a source for insect pins with metal heads:

I just took a look at my AUTOMOBILE QUARTERLY Index. Get your hands on volume 25 #1

They did a large write up on the 1906 steamer with photos and illustrations.

    Heres one on eBay...

AUTOMOBILE QUARTERLY AQ Vol 25 #1 - eBay (item 120654848949 end time Jan-30-11 12:42:13 PST)

Also volume 34 number 4 has more reference to the land speed record attempt of 1906. Its not as well documented as the the one above but it could provide a little more info.
