It is not my intent to start this "New" project right away,(I have as of yet to put two Model A parts together) but in collecting references I noticed a detail I thought I should share.

I do not know if this is unique or if it is a feature common to all the 8C engine blocks? -The hollow access on the underside of the motor mounts that extend to the chassis rails?

Along with the access on the undersides, along the flange of the oil pan, the areas around the fastening bolts seam to be reinforced (thickened) which is also not indicated on the Pocher kit.

A few weeks ago Mr. Zimmermann posted some beautiful photos of his Continental MkII engine, and I am sure that I am not alone in thinking that his model is by itself a stand-alone masterpiece!

I don't know if I can make a masterpiece, but on my short list of engines that I'm considering: Ford Model A (of course!), this ALFA 8C 2300, and from my long, long suffering Type 53 Bugatti, a Type 50 engine.

Pretty ambitious? If we don't push ourselves? who will?

    Hi MAM!
    Great and beautiful project.
Lot of things are missing on this engine by Pocher...
Steering box fixing (yellow), holes in the engine brackets, both sides (blue) and of course it's not an exhaustive list!

    Hello Dan!

Do you have an exhaustive list? I am waiting for a few more references before I start anything, and not having found any dimensions, I guess I'll just proceed with my handy proportional dividers and settle for a model that "Looks" right.

I'm sorry Don, unfortunately not! But your reference pics are really great...
    Good luck!

Some things that need addressing on the Pocher engine (I'm sure it's not exhaustive!):
2-4mm (not sure quite how big) spacer on the offside of the block (for the gear drive) to move the blower mount further out
Cam end covers at the front of the head, and rev counter drive clamps at the rear. Also build up the head to match the cast flanges on the cam covers
Relief on the offside mounting "wing" for the steering box
Separate the inlet manifold - it's two parts not one
End bearing cap on the rear of the nearside gear drive extension for the generator drive
Delete the knurled screw on the sump
    Distributor cap clips are missing
Advance/retard mechanism - the crank on the cam cover and the operating lever on the steering box
Hand throttle linkage on the steering box to the throttle actuating rod
Brake light switch on the steering box
Take a good look at the bolts where the two blocks and the two heads are joined together - it's more complex than the kit

That's all I can think of for now....

I don't remember the source of this drawing but it should provide some reference dimensions:ALFA ROMEO 8C 2300 ENGINE MODEL - 1/4th SCALE-alfa-romeo-8c-2300-engine-section-jpg

And I have viewed the JAY LENO's GARAGE about his PUR SANG replica ALFA, (many times!!), and since I couldn't capture still images I'd pause and actually photograph the screen. All in an attempt to better understand where the good people at POCHER skipped over surfaces and details?
