      Hi Folks
I have recently found Scale Motorcars and what a great site it is with many fantastic builds, really quite inspirational.
I thought I would post some photos of a build I am currently undertaking based upon the Pocher 1/8 scale kit of the Fiat F2 racer. At the moment I am unsure of whether to try and do a complete scratch build Fiat F-2 Racer 1907 Scratch Build? or not (some parts look very difficult). So far I have made the chassis, axles and some of the bodywork. Fiat F-2 Racer 1907 Scratch Build?-fiat002-jpg

I am currently working on the bonnet which is proving rather more difficult than I imagined. Once this is completed I would like to scratch build Fiat F-2 Racer 1907 Scratch Build? the radiator, I should be able to do the brass work but I don't know how to do the grill and any advice would be gratefully received.

I have had a think about how to make the clamps and get them all the same size, There are probably a few ways of doing this but my idea is to make a former from some gauge plate, once the former is the correct shape harden and temper it. Then bolt a piece of brass to it and file to shape. If the former is hardened sufficiently then you wont file the former.
The former has the appropriate shape for each end of the clamp with a hole to bolt the brass to.

I am just waiting for some suitable brass then I will give it a go.

That's it! (i was thinking way to difficult )

There are also two bends in the clamp, that would mean a second tool to make them equal.

Yes I think that might be tricky. I am hoping that if the brass is well annealed that it will bend fairly easy but I won't know until I give it a go.

I managed to get some 6mmx0.82mm brass strip for the bead clamps and have made an attempt at making the clamps.

Firstly I produced the former from gauge plate, heated to cherry red and quenched in water. The resulting steel is really hard and a file just skates across the surface.

Once I had filed to shape I annealed the brass, (heat to dull red and quench in water). This produces an easily bendable part.

I put one bend in by holding in an engineering clamp and just bent by eye on the work bench.

For the final bend I mounted on to the rim and then again using the clamps bent to the bead.

    Just three more to do.

Today I made the rest of the clamps and fitted the tyres.

So this is how far I have got, still loads more to do but it feels like progress.

I think I will tackle the seats and petrol tank next but it will be a few months away as I need to make progress on the locomotive I am building.
