This very much comes under the heading of future projects, but I believe it can be built from the Airfix kit, with a scratch built 1/12 Birkin Blower Bentley single seater body. I've already found some 3D print files for the body, which even if not accurate, could be used as the basis for a body buck.

      Has anyone attempted it?

Thanks Roger - you always inspire me to do it better!

I have the milling attachment for the Unimat 3, but it's not really man enough for what I attempt to do with it! After several years of frustration I bit the bullet and bought a dedicated mill - intending to CNC control X and Y in the future...
The mill is a Sieg SX2P. It works well, my only problem so far is that the divisions on the X and Y wheels are 0.025mm - with 80 divisions per turn. I'm slowly coming to terms with 2mm per rotation... but it still needs careful working out. I guess it would make it easy if I was working in thou. My next purchase may well be a digital readout kit...

The rotary table is from SOBA. I've had it for some time but it's a bit big for the Unimat 3. Now it's come into it's own. Nice, divisions are in 1/4 degrees and there's no backlash

PS if you load a standard portrait photo it posts as landscape, and when you try to delete it it adds it at the bottom of the post - like this. I got the first picture to show as portrait by cropping it slightly.

That's serious tooling! The rotating table seems to be very precise which I cannot say from the similar and crude tool coming with the Unimat3.

    Back to the exhaust.

Here's the rear support - it's difficult to find pictures, so the middle of the bracket is a guess...

    First joint

I cut and bent the square tube, then soldered a piece of strip onto it. Here's the finished bracket

The one area I'm having trouble getting pictures of is the undertray. It starts at the flywheel housing and follows it's semicircular shape, then transitions into what looks like a rectangular section (like in the kit, but central, not offset) and then seems to be a simple sheet from the back axle to the rear of the body. How the transitions are made between the sections is the difficult bit!
    Does anyone have any info?

I can't recall whether or not I put this link in your build thread or not, and I am sure you have done your research, but here are some additional shots of the Bentley you are building. The second link is an example that showed up at the recent Concorso d' Eleganza Villa d' Esta. Looking forward to seeing furhter progress on this build. Great work!

Thanks for the link! These are pictures that I hadn't seen, and you can never have too many pictures! What is really difficult is finding in-period shots, and particularly relating them to the different developments on the car. I've settled on what I think it was like in early 1932, but there is nothing definitive.

I'm having a rest from the Bentley at the moment - currently on the bench is a 1/12 RAF range safety launch and a 1/24 stackpipe BRM...

After the success with the Alfa bonnet louvres, I thought that I'd better carry on
    Here's the bonnet side panels

The tool to press the D-louvre - the others are similar to the Alfa....

    Thanks Roger!

A trial fit of the bonnet sections - still a lot of work to do...

This was always going to be a kerbside model (a relief from the Alfa!) and so I've glued together 3 sections of the bonnet. I was going to use the engine just as a support for the exhaust - but now I realise it can be seen (tantalisingly!) through the louvres, I will need to paint it...

Just like the main body I have sanded through the nose again, trying to get the right profile. More backfilling with styrene 1/12 Birkin Blower Bentley single seater and surface filling with CA...
