This very much comes under the heading of future projects, but I believe it can be built from the Airfix kit, with a scratch built 1/12 Birkin Blower Bentley single seater body. I've already found some 3D print files for the body, which even if not accurate, could be used as the basis for a body buck.

      Has anyone attempted it?

    Thanks very much Dan!

Now, something that took some time... the grease caps for the kingpins, on top of the front hubs...

The nut shape is actually octagonal (Why? I have owned cars with this feature, but why???)

It's been a bit cold lately so not much incentive to go into the workshop. However, I've performed some updates on my SEIG SX2 mill.

    - Replaced the torsion spring that (doesn't) balance the head with a gas strut
    - Added 3 axis digital read out (no more worries with backlash)
    - Added a rev counter to the motor (so I can better estimate cutting speed) I can also fit a reverse switch with this kit if necessary

I'm still a bit lost with cutting speed calculation - most of the info on the web is for specific (big) mills and there are lots of variable to consider. At least I can experiment to find the best combination, note it down and be able to repeat it.

The digital readout is AWESOME. It's accurate to within 0.01mm which is way good enough for me. It really speeds things up.

    here's the revisions

...and all done for less that $200 US

A few more bits. There's a curious finned exhaust joint on the 1932 car which looks like a heatsink

The finished part on the exhaust

Two more hydraulic dampers for the left hand side - they will need a repaint of the primer 1/12 Birkin Blower Bentley single seater - looks like it was too cold to spray

1/12 Birkin Blower Bentley single seater-img_2967-jpg

The next task is to add all the chassis furniture back - the bolts, rivets, brackets and strengthening rods. I'm waiting for warmer weather!

I've been in the UK for a while so no work done, but it's time to get on with it now! There's a lot of detail work to do, I've been drilling the chassis for it's replacement bolts etc. and also started on the front end. Here's the front axle mount for the friction damper, made from 5/32" square tube.

I'm guessing at the fixing, I don't have any pictures of it, but if I made it I'd use channel as it puts the bolt in double shear, effectively doubling it's strength.

It just shows that when you sit down and make something without research, it's always wrong...
I found a hint of the correct damper bracket in this picture

1/12 Birkin Blower Bentley single seater-birkin-rad-jpg

So I'll remake the brackets single sided...

Meanwhile I've painted and assembled the blower

The front Houdaille friction damper brackets, the nosecone supports, and replacement of the chassis bolts. Friction dampers are from Shapeways.

    Hello Jo!

    Happy New Year!

Very nice work, very clean, it is going to be such a beautiful model!

On the super-charger casing, is there room for No. 1 to be stamped on?

Very small stamps are available through McMaster Carr, or for really tiny stamps, there is MICROSTAMP, who have off the shelf stamps, and stamp sets, or they can make custom orders.

Just a thought, it would be very easy to impress that detail, and I don't think I have ever seen anybody do it?

    Just a thought!

    Dan, thanks

Don, thanks too! Sure there is room for NO.1 to be stamped on the front casting 1/12 Birkin Blower Bentley single seater , but in 1/12 scale the lettering is about 1/4 of the height of the brass nameplate (about 3mm) which would make it 0.75mm high. As the line width of the letter is about 10% of the height, that makes the stamp for the 1 to be 0.075 wide (about 3 thou for non-believers).

I might do it raised, if I can find some fleas legs...

They do offer complete sets of alpha/numerics, or you can purchase individual stamps? (I believe) 1mm and 1/2mm in height.

However the depth would probably be just the thickness of your paint.
