        Hey guys. I have been experimenting a little today and came up with a way to make cheap nuts/bolts heads.

        I don't know if this is a common practice, it may very well be since I am not the most experianced modeler out here.

        What I did was take a small socket headed cap screw.....you know, the ones you use an allen wrench to tighten. I set it up in a holder to hold it securely. Then I took a piece of 1/16th styrene An Easy Way to make small cheap bolts/nuts rod and lit it on fire. Let it burn for a second or two then shove it into the hole for the allen wrench.

        Once it cools just pluck it out and cut off the hex shaped part........WaLa......a bolt head!!

      thats a pretty good idea, just be carefull those fumes are extremely hazardous.

      Good idea. But never thought of buying some hex shaped styrene An Easy Way to make small cheap bolts/nuts rod, and slicing off what you need?

      That would be a lot easier...lol

      I guess I was thinking that this would work well in a pinch. When you have no hex rod.

      The nearest hobby shop to me is abou 30 miles away and it does not stock any hex styrene An Easy Way to make small cheap bolts/nuts . I have to either buy it via the internet or drive 200 miles to get some.

      This is called one of the "Works in a Pinch" solution. I usually use hex rod but there have been times when I didn't have the right size and I could have used a solution like this.

      This is a reasonable source for small (00-90 and 00-80 ) brass hex bolts.

      Here is where I get most of my tiny stuff.

      Miniature screws, Miniature Screws & Fasteners - JI Morris Miniature Screws & Fasteners

      Usually their price beats all others, but you have to buy a minimum of a gross. They also have stainless steel and the 0000-160 An Easy Way to make small cheap bolts/nuts and 000-120 An Easy Way to make small cheap bolts/nuts sizes.

      Yes, 0000-160 An Easy Way to make small cheap bolts/nuts is what I use on my WWI airplanes. If you are in modelling for the long haul buy in bulk they do not go bad.
