Fellow modeling friends, I am working on a project that I needed to make two identical parts of. This is what I used and how I did it. Photo 1 shows the pattern of what I needed to make. I was going to try to make each piece separately but I have tried that before without success. The parts were always a little off. I decided to cut the sheet into two pieces and go from there. Photo 2 shows the tools that I used and cardboard template of what I needed to make (gray thing shown on the piece of paper). Included are files, sanding Making 2 Identical Parts block, scrap plastic, razor saws Making 2 Identical Parts , a pin drill, a few nuts and bolts and a tube of Glue Stick. I applied glue stick to both inner surfaces. I then tried to cut it out but it still moved. I drilled some holes in the cut off areas and bolted the two halves together using scrap plastic "washers" (which being the holes were in areas that were not the part I needed, it did not really matter). I used the saws to get close to my lines while still leaving space to file/sand. Photo 3 shows it almost finished. Photo 4 are the two finished pieces. As a note, I held it together with a wood clothespin after I cut off the nuts and bolts. It seemed like it would not move, I just wanted to be extra careful. I used a pencil to outline my cut area and I needed to keep going over it every once in a while as it would start to come off when handled. NOTE: One thing I forgot to mention. To get the two pieces apart after you are finished, put them in WARM water (not scalding-it may warp the plastic) and let them soak a little while. It will soften the glue and you should be able to slide them apart. Wash the glue off with a little soap and water. Happy Modeling!!! I hope this subject has not been covered yet. If anyone has a different way, I'd like to know. If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask. I will do my best to help. Have Fun!!! DPNM

Rick, Thanks for the kind words. I hope this tutorial is something many will find useful. As for what I am building...I'm not ready to give that up just yet. Portions should be on here in the next couple of weeks. I want to get a little farther along and I've been having trouble taking good pictures with my phone and a camera. Jim

Great tutorial. This is one of the big problems in scratchbuilding. This is a great way to get it right. Thanks DPNM.

HFC, Thanks for the kind words also. As an aside to Rick, there is a picture on the site that shows what I am building that the part I made is to be used for. The keen-eyed member may be able to find it. Jim

Rick, It seems you may have found it. I hope to get some pics on for the Sunday thing. I will be trying to paint some stuff tomorrow if the weather co-operates. Still gonna be pretty chilly here in Pittsburgh but I may try anyway. If I don't post any pics this weekend maybe by next weekend? Jim
