Well - after a year of planning and design, work on 'The Revenge' has finally begun. Fabrication on the engine block is coming along nicely and the frame rails are starting to look like, well... frame rails.

If you all want, I'll post periodic pictures of the build as she progresses over the the next nine to twelve months. I can just make this the "official" thread or open some new ones time-to-time.

Anyway - I just finished the major fabrication on the leaf springs. After I finish the polishing and buffing (and fitting onto the frame rails), they'll be off to the platers for chrome.

This is going to be a massive project, but I think it's going to be a lot of fun.

      Andy.

Hey Andy, I just had a brain storm. Either that or it was just gas. :p Like you said, if it were a Duesenberg you could do it in your sleep. Isn't the Duesenberg sort of the hot Ezno's Revenge rod of it's time? What you bring to the table is what a lot of us have absolutely no idea about,i.e. some of the finest built vehicles in the world. What would it be like if Chip or Boyd or George or even Big Daddy came to you and said "Hey Andy, I want you to make me a hot Ezno's Revenge rod based on a Deusenberg or something like that. And I'll pay you a million bucks. " You wouldn't have to make it all weird or really radical and mess up a good marque, but a mild treatment of sorts would be the idea. Zing up the engine, do a little minor bodywork, shave a little chrome, use what's already there and go from that point. You probably wouldn't even have to chop the top. I've always wanted to do something like that but I was always afraid the guys at the Concourse would come and leave rude signs at my house. In fact to me, a Duesy speedster type already looks like a deuce on steroids. Also, don't ever claim that you're automotively ignorant. You're just not familiar with this particular genre as I'm not all that familiar with the workings of Ferarri, Lamborghini or even Bugatti. Like I said once before, we all come to the table with a whole lot of different offerings. We then look at what we're not familiar with it, try it and then decide if it's worth going further with it. That's basically how I got into scratchbuilding, from what you and modelmaker and all the other builders brought to this table. I would never have even thought of attempting it in a million years but I liked it. It's just like food. I tried some cheeseburgers (hot rodding), I tried some fine veal marsala (Italian sports cars), I even tried some of that there goose liver pate. That stuff you can keep. The more your exposed to something, the more you know if you want to go in that direction. Like Don said, there are no experts here. While you're trying to decipher hot Ezno's Revenge rodding, a number of us are trying to decipher the complexities of what you know like the back of your hand. We teach each other and have a blast. Now, if I've made any sense here, please let me know. I have no idea of what I meant and I think I took too many pills this morning. :D :D :D

Andy...cut Jeff some slack, he used to play with "little" cars. HEEEE, HEEEEEE, said I can't do that....now he's making spark plugs from blue prints. Who knows...he may even come up with a plug that's fired by laser. No wires!:D :D :D

AHAAAA !!!! Now I know I definitely took too many pills this morning. Lessee, there was the white one with the black letters, there was the little blue one with the red stripes, the little red one with the red stripes, the candy green one with the ivory scallops, the sunrise orange one with the blue flames, the purple one with the ghost flames, the---- there's the problem, it's the hole in my respirator. Where's them little cars?? Today I made a speedometer needle from a blue print. I made a cam shaft out of a piece of linguini. GAHHH!! I need help. :D :D :D

Glu - If I'm going with the lever shocks in the front, then the drums are a must. I'm starting to think that my original wheels are going to be replaced with a set of 19" spokes. The question then is, red or black spokes. The body is black, the interior is red... Hmmmmmmm... decisions, decisions.

Thanks again for the guidance. This has already been a banner day for The Revenge and I haven't even gotten to my bench yet!

    Andy.

P.S. You realize of course that if I do the lever suspension in the front then I'm going to have to design and fabricate a cantilevered suspension in the back using a solid beam up top and a leaf on the bottom. That would look sick since there's no bed in the back to obstruct anything. Man - this thing is getting out of control... and I'm loving it.

Hahaha no problem Andy. Just so these guys aren't sittin' there scratchin' their heads wonderin' what the heck I did...

Andy and I hooked up on the phone this mornin'. I just wanted to let him know that he's so close to buildin' a traditionally styled rod with Ferrari parts that it wasn't even funny. He's got the 50's mill...the post war spring setup (or it's equal)...stance, attitude...the foundation is there...so I just pointed to a few things and let him look for himself.

I think you are totally on track with lever shocks, drums, and wire wheels. Especially the size. Don't be afraid to go just a little bigger in the back, but not too much...just enough to get the "big n little" feel. I'm inclined to say black, but I'll let you figure that one out as you get closer to the finished picture in your head.

    It's gonna be killer man!

Or I could honor Jimmy Shine's Pickup and put the big ones in the front.

Crikey - in a matter of a single morning, you've got me redesigning a rod that I'd designed in my head for nearly a year!

P.S. If I do have The Revenge ready in time to bring it out at the Autorama next Winter in Detroit, you're coming with me. If I'm going down with this one, I ain't going alone!

Yea - You opened the door

Saying you opened the door is like saying Oprah Winfrey likes cake! What in the name of Aunt Betty's biscuits did you think was going to happen when you showed me that suspension setup!?!?!?!?!? :p

I feel so used. (sniffle, sniffle.)
