So how do you guys shake your paint?

Shaking by hand gets a little old.

      Any DIY paint shakers?

I keep a bottle of lead shot for fishing weights - it's cheaper than shooting shot and you don't need to buy a 25 pound bag - by the workbench. They're about 1/4" diameter. When I open a new bottle of paint, I drop in a shot. I still shake by hand but the shot stirs things up real quick.

I use about 6 BB's per 1/4 ounce bottle of Testors paint. Shake for about a minute er so and your ready to go to town.

Here is what I came up with. I had a massage thingy that came with a buckwheat massage neck pillow. I think that I got it at Walmart for $9.00.

Here are the guts. A battery pack attached to a shaker motor with an offset flywheel.

Then I glued a spray paint can lid to the silicone plugs and the battery pack to the board. I mounted the motor to the paint cup with masking Paaint Shaker tape. And A little piece of the rubber mat in the bottom of the can and I am done. :D

And here is the video! There are two speeds but the high speed breaks the glue joints.

    Does it work?

    Yes.

Is it the best thing in the world .

No. It takes a while to shake it up but I guess you can put a bottle in and shake it while you're using another color.

Now I'm looking at Walmart's 6 MOTORED massage chair pad.........

Now that's cool. It's a simple solution but it's brilliant.

RC, I think it might shake the paint up faster if the bottle wasn't able to bounce around inside the lid. Every piece of padding or air gap in between the motor and the bottle will absorb some of the vibration and make it take longer to shake up. Other than that, it's a cool use of some extra parts to get a mini paint shaker.

Yep, you're probably right. I'm still playing with it. My favorite method is to tilt a round bottle like a Model Master bottle over on it's side. The bottle spins while it is shaking. If I decide that I need a more violent motion, I can always glue a coin offset on to the flywheel.

It does work pretty good. You can see the silver particles swirling around in a bottle of silver paint.
