It doesn't seem possible that I completed her 5 years ago. The Satin Doll - a 1:8 scale replica of a 1931 Rolls-Royce Continental Coupe - was started on November 12, 2002 and completed on November 3, 2004.

      She started out as Pocher K-72 - The Sedanca. I rebuilt the body turning it into a Coupe and redesigned the engine to reflect the configuration of the Continental.

      Overall - the entire build required about 1700 hours. The interior follows the prototype with leather seats, hand-rubbed walnut dash and door crowns and wool carpets. The body features a chopped roof that has been converted from Sedanca to Coupe. The scuttle, doors and bonnet, and boot all had to be refabricated and the wings and running boards were also redesigned.

      As I look back on her today, I see hundreds of things that I should have done differently and could have done better. But she was my first IPMS The Satin Doll Best of Show winner and the project that encouraged me to take on bigger and more complicated scratch-built projects.

      To this day, she holds a special place in my heart. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

      Andy.

    HFC - for the first time since I finished her, I just went back and re-read the build journal. I honestly can't believe I did that! Things were pretty "normal" (if there is such a thing when building Pochers) until I decided to do the whole body mod.

    To tell you the truth, that project changed my entire outlook on model building. Now I can't leave anything alone without tweaking it, twisting it or just plain scrapping it and starting over. I'm not sure that's good or bad. But it sure it fun.

    since there is no original vehicle of the Pocher Sedanca in principle, nearly everything is permitted with this model.

    I can say one however about your model: IT IS GOOD! ;';;';

    That's exactly my problem also. I was doing a box stock The Satin Doll tutorial on the deuce but in a short while, it turned into mild mod and then I decided to scratchbuild the suspension. Then I'm gonna do this and then I'm gonna do that. This is what keeps me going. It also caused me a mess of burnout but hopefully I'm past that.

    Thanks Whodaky. It's easy to forget about projects that you finished and put on the shelf years ago. But you never forget your first. And The Satin Doll was my first journey into scratch building.

    Glad you like her.

    Andy.
