        I found sewing thread sized spools of copper wire in 32, 28, 26 and 24 ga at Hobby Lobby for $2/ea. The're in the "beading" area.

        I bought the copper but they come on steel and a yellow brass color and some 20 ga in other colors.

      Hobby Lobby's beading section is one of modelings best kept secrets. There are all kinds of wire, string, leather strips, elastic cord and nylon wire available as well as other things that can be used for custom tail lights, dash board knobs, grills, and a lot of other parts you'd never think you could make. Half the time, I don't even go to the model section. Everything there is too small. Also, check out the art department, the paint department, the scultping section and the drafting department.
