Cheap big scale parts sorces

That's one of the factors that's important to the hobby and that is to find what you need in places you usually wouldn't think of. Many modelers have gotten ideal parts from the weirdest places. Not to make a pun or cliche but it's all aobut thinking outside the box.

Next time you go too Wendy's for a burger an' fries, ask for a few containers of thier sauce. These containers look like a Lakewood style belhousing and is about the right scale. It just needs a little triming arond the edge to fit your application. May be worth checking out!! .... And it also has a flange to mount a starter. How cool it that??

... No sir! I was eatin' last night's leftovers that the little woman brought home. Then I got to thinkin' that the container looked like the Lakewood "scatter shield" er "clutch can". I checked it up against one from a Lindy kit and bingo!...It was the right size!!

..... I do plan on getting more of those just in case I mess one up. Then I wouldn't feel so bad. As fer gettin' strange looks..... You should see me when I go trash pickin' in my neighborhood. I bring my 6" digital calipers to measure stuff.

Cant beat a decent op shop for amazing cheap parts.
When i built the land rover i used some strange sources of parts

The headlights are the reflector cones and about 1/4 inch of the bezel of a couple of $1 torches from the local cheap shop, the wheels are from two hand carts super cheap auto had on special for $20 (the most expensive parts of the whole build lol), the grill is "snake mesh" used to keeps snakes out of aviaries and the indicators are dash lights from an old instrument cluster out of my escort.
We have a chain store called Spotlight near here, they sell fabrics and soft furnishings and the like, but they have a large handicrafts section with enough items to keep an inventive modeler busy for weeks.

Troppo, I too am always looking at different things from a model perspective. One needs to think very laterally.
I shop at Spotlight also. They have a good range of very fine paint brushes also, amongst other things.
I have got a few reflectors from big torches, that I can see being used as smooth style rims. I just have to come up with a model they are suited to.
Your 'Landy" rocks Troppo! And knowing the sizes of the wheels you used, tells me that the you Land Rover is one very big model!

Well when the trailer and boat are hooked up to it they run to just under 10 feet long, it all started with the boat, then i wanted a way to display it (the trailer) and then one of the guys at work said "You really need to do a tow vehicle to really complete it" The ******* really knew the wrong thing to say
