Starting my Pocher Aventador Roadster...

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the silly questions as I am a newbie to building kits. I just recently got my Aventador kit and I am about to get my feet wet. I just removed some of the parts.
I have a few questions:

1. Do I need to wash all the parts prior to painting as I heard that there maybe residues from the molding process left on the plastic parts? What chemical should I use to remove the reaidues/grease that won't cause damage to the plastic parts? Is liquid dish soap ok?

2. Do I need to sand all the plastic parts that need to be painted/primed so the paint will stick on the surface better?
I am planning to use acrylic paint or if you have any recommendation on the type of paint that works better please let me know.

3. I am lost looking at the parts and not sure where to start. Some said start on the engine some start on interior. Is it a good idea to follow exactly where the instruction manual begins?

4. Do those numbers attached to the parts mean anything or make them easy to identify during the build? I am planning to remove all the parts first.

You will enjoy this kit. I use only automotive rattle cans to paint, so keep that in mind as I answer below. If you are airbrushing with water based paints you should get advice from someone who does the same.

1. Do I need to wash all the parts prior to painting ? No. I spray without washing the parts, usually doing a whole sprue at one time and touching up any visible sprue attachment points after removing individual parts.

2. Do I need to sand all the plastic parts that need to be painted/primed so the paint will stick on the surface better? No, don't sand , you'll only remove surface detail or add scratches. I don't usually prime either, although I often use primer as an engine or chassis color on its own.

3. I am lost looking at the parts and not sure where to start. Some said start on the engine some start on interior. Is it a good idea to follow exactly where the instruction manual begins? Feel free to build smaller sub-assemblies in any order, but except for the engine I usually follow the order of the manual.

Thanks in advance. See my first note above. I usually paint whole sprues and remove the parts as I need them. Keep parts from a single sprue together at the very least to help find them when you need them.

Finally someone replied to my post hahaha. Thank you and I greatly appreciate you taking the time to answer each of my question thoroughly. So the automotive rattle can type can provide a smooth finish correct (as that is my main concern)?
