Pocher F40 with Autograph Trans kit

Hey fellas Im hoping this first project with you will be a good one. Actually this was my holygrail of projects, I've wanted to build a pocher F40 for years but could never seem to get the kit due to the rarity of it , you know how it works the more rare the more costly it becomes. On ebay these Kits run from anywhere up wards of $500.00 - $1200.00 I was able to get mine as a poorly built glue bomb for $250.00.

Also I have the latest AutoGraph Trans Kit on the way from Germany these trans kits sell for around $2000.00 but will completely transform the pocher kit into a museum quality build.

My first order of business was to dis-assemble the F40 and clean up the parts (there are over 300 seperate parts) and get it ready for the arrival of the Trans Kit.

Yeah when I saw it on eBay the guy had the auction starting at 250 bucks so I just offered him the 250 and he took it I was shocked that he did. And your right its in fairly good condition. I guess I was in the right place at the right time 1thumbup1

I figured while im waiting on the trans kit id start painting some parts.


I was able to get the textured look of the vavle covers by spraying at about 16 inches away from the parts they were sprayed with Testors Itailian red.

these are the exhaust heat shields sprayed with a light coating of alclad pale burnt metal, i'll spray them once more to get em a lil darker...

Thx Ton Im doing just that most of my engine parts have been drilled out where the bolts were and I have downloaded the manual I can tell already this is goin to be one heck of a ride LOL! but im no stranger to long rides feel free to check out my last project its a 1/16th scale 69 Daytona ProMod most of it is scratch built i did the Build on the MCM forums heres the link for ya.

The most challenging in this build was to look for solutions for ill fitting parts of the Pocher kit and the transkit.

Two weeks today and I'm still waiting on the trans kit to get here, so I'm stripping the paint from the body parts. You know I've heard that the paint on these Ferrari is bad but the paint on mine just doesn't want to let go! I'm having a heck of a time stripping this thing!

A few A-arms etc.

Anyway, to get to the point....if you wind up with a broken part or something that's unsalvageable you might want to rattle my cage (PM) to see if I have a spare. Also, I'll post more exploded views for ya as soon as I can get to 'em.

You want to talk about entertainment, all I have to do is let the birds out and put acut up apple in a bowl that they can all reach. It is really awesome though, nobody tries to hurt anybody but the all play as hard as they can. The really cool part is when the four quadrapeds are all sleeping together and Moonshine make his nest in the middle. Sundance is not quite as social.

I have found that there is always a part of a build that I don't care to do, usually cleaning parts and getting them ready for paint. Some kits are worse then others and that is why I am starting to scratchbuild more and more. But pushing throught the sludge makes it so much more rewarding when you have a finished build and sit back and relish the accomplishment.

I was able to get the oil line hooked up to the tranny along with the bracket to hold it. with the autograph kit you have to strip your own braided hose (from communication cable) and make them. i think thats pretty kool!

Now there is a way to obtain braided line! What size is the communication cable and what size braid does it yeild? And by the way, looking great so far bro! OORAH!

Looks good Romell! The solder that is put in the braided hose starts discoloring after some times and the braided line gets orange. Maybe you should try to gibe the solder a coating.

Thanks Ton thats some helpful info I'll be sure to use it.....
I wanted to share with you some progress, I was able to put the brake disc together and this was no simple task as the disk is made up of 3 main photo etched parts that need to be soldered together. The Kit gives you two version possisbilities and I chose to build it with the real threaded knock offs. I also opted not to paint the parts as per the instructions , instead i polished the metal parts for a more realistic piece. The shocks were also a nice piece of work as they are made from white metal and photo etch the only kit piece is the spring which had to be cut to size. I hope you enjoy!

Thank you for sharing your progress.Romell. It's a great chance to watch a dive in an Autograph F 40 again. For my own part....I stalked Ton's build and saw, that I will never have the skills(and money, perhaps) to make one of my own.

With the F40 being my favorite super car of all times I always felt she looked her best not in Ferrari red or yellow but in BLACK, a dark glossy black! So now it time to get some paint on the body so guess what color I'll be spraying this beauty? You guessed correctly , Black.

I'm not exactly sure how many hours I have invested Ton but I can estimate ruffly ...... lets see I started this post 7/18/12 but the trans kit didn't arrive until 8/7/12 which is when the real work started Id say I work on it about 4 hours a day since then, today's date being 9/22/12 that's 56 days. So 56 days x 4 hours a day (give or take a few hours) I'd say somewhere in the neighborhood of 224 hours, now that does not take into account the days that I spent an entire day devoted just to this model or the days I wasn't home to work on it at all.... So to answer your question correctly...... I have no idea how many hours I have into this project LOL!

Hey fellas i was able to get a Lil more done today , I worked on the truck area where I installed the brake master cylinder and lines. I also picked up a 1/8th scale Snap-On floor lift just like the ones used in Ferrari shops. The car is matt black right now until I can get the gloss coats on. anyway nough said on to the pics.......

That will make one hell of a nice display man! Leave the wheels off as if it were being worked on (not that Ferrari's are fiddly cars by any means...ehem). Are you going to put it in a shop setting or just up on the lift?

It'll be displayed on a base with the floor lift , the toolbox in the back ground with two wheels off on one side and both bonnets and doors open. There will be tools on the floor and in the tool box. so I guess it will be in a semi shop setting LOL!

I have wanted to build this same trans kit forever, well Now that I have some cash I bought it, I have my F40 and the trans kit.
But I am working in Afghanistan I figured this would be a good thing to pass some time.

My problem is tools, paint and adhesive. I need some advice on where to buy that will mail to a APO.

It has been a long time since I have built models but I'm not worried about it. I have torn apart helicopters for years so no worries.

any suggestions on a soldering iron and glue for this project would be helpful, I mean just an old school iron or is there something better for this, and as for glue I know the old school platic melters and I have access to 5 min epoxy here. This will be my first transkit so im that guy

I am really impressed by the amount of details that the transkit is giving to the pocher model. I was lucky enough to get a barely started F40 kit from eBay, and, since I am living in Germany, the Autograph transkit is really tempting.

However, I have some doubts about my ability to "master" the whole thing: I mean, I already made a few models, I learned airbrushing basics (I have a simple single-action Revell basic set, with its small compressor), but I don't consider myself like being a model-expert.

Is there any big technical difficulty? Is there some techniques to master before starting with the transkit?

Hi Romell has not been active for a long time but I build the F40 with the Autograph kit also a couple of years ago. If you talk about techniques there is not much to talk about. You need to know some basic knowledge of soldering and it is wise to take a couple hours practice to learn to make a good weld. The biggest hurdle is the complexity of the transkit and the lack of a good manual. Further more you need a lot of time ( I spent 650 hours on building exclusive the paint job and the planning of the build) and also you have to step over ourself and convince yourself you can do it. All these thing are ingredients why so many have been sold but not have been build. But it is also fun to "create" a masterpiece of the F40 !

I've been following your build on this and my hat is off to you. Very, Very impressive work. I have an F40 that I've purchased and built over 20 yrs ago. Still looks great but now with the transkit out there, I'm thinking of jumping on the upgrade bandwagon but like others, I'm taken aback by the complexity of the kit and lack of clear instructions. I know scaledetails has an engine upgrade kit and am wondering if you or anyone out there is familiar with it and how it compares to the Autograph kit.
Here's what I would ideally like: Even though I can solder, I would rather avoid that part. Can the transkit be installed without using the parts that need soldering on the engine bay frame?. I can deal with soldering the rotors. I really like the way the suspension is upgraded. Any advise from you or anyone else on this forum is greatly appreciated! Want to start this after my Aventador.

Or should I just bite the bullet and get the Autograph kit?
