Hi, here is a little more progress on the Honda racer. With the wheels and chain done, it is pretty much a straightforward model kit now, but with great fit and detail. I haven't counted the engine pieces, but the cylinder block is a stack of individual fins. It sure gives a realistic look at 1/12. There are two main colors to the engine, aluminum and a sort of pale bronze which is actually a cast magnesium alloy. There are very good reference photos in the kit and on line. To emphasize the idea that the engine is an assembly of parts and not a monolithic casting , I'd mix up a palette cup of the basic color. After a false start with the mix in the corrected instructions, I faked the pale bronze color from a mix of Testor's platinum metallic , anthracite grey, and a drop of brass. I sprayed a part, or group of parts with this mix, then dumped the airbrush back into the palette cup, where I stirred in a drop or two of either one of the original colors or some similar color, and sprayed a couple more parts. Repeat until all magnesium parts are done. The parts were a good color, but looking at the pictures there was an irregularity to the sand cast parts. I mixed up some real weak grey and steel, and misted this over the parts. When that was dry a spray of dullcote gave the flat cast look I was after, with the slight variety in color that might be expected in the small foundry runs these parts had.

I didn't get a chance to put anything up today. I spent part of the day in the ER with the wife. So far everything's o.k.
