The block, timeing cover and pan are now painted and fitted and the valve covers are also painted. Some of you may growl at the black block and valve covers but believe me, thats a correct colour for a GMPP crate 454. The heads and intake will be painted polished aluminum. Also shown is the assembled bellhousing and transmission along with the smoothed and ready for paint intake manifold.

I really like this engine and it screams for detail BUT, this is a box stock First Annual SMC Engine Building Show build. Detailing will come after the contest.

I want to enter the "scratch Built" category with the 1/8 scale Cosworth I'm attempting. You guys have some fantastic motors here.

I think that it is time to finally build an engine that has been on the shelf for a couple of years and this seems like a good opportunity.

In an effort to simulate a polished aluminum look on the heads, I shot Alclad First Annual SMC Engine Building Show Chrome over grey primer First Annual SMC Engine Building Show rather than gloss black. I only shot one thin coat and the effect is very close to that of polished aluminum.

Jarrow - that's the engine I'm building now to put in my hot First Annual SMC Engine Building Show rod - Enzo's Revenge. Let's build 'em together and compare notes. Mine's being converted into an automobile engine and it would be fun to see how ours come out.

Absolutely Rick. With the Alfa project done, I'm doing a major floor-to-ceiling cleaning of the workshop and metal shop this weekend and them I'm getting to work on Enzo's Revenge starting with the engine.

    This is gunna be fun!

Sounds good. Mine will remain a marine version to go into the hydroplane. To date I've have only done cleanup of the castings and I bought RB Motion plugs and boots to use instead of the kit supplied parts. At first I was going to leave the engine in its natural metal state but after cleaning the castings there are many shiny and dull surfaces so I have to decide on polishing or painting. I'm leaning towards painting with Alclad First Annual SMC Engine Building Show II to get the subtle differences seen in the pictures. Another idea I had was using a Passche eraser to blend the differences in appearance but I'd like to hear what other have to say.

I've also marveled at your work so I'm eager to hear some of your ideas. I do have many reference photos of the actual engine and boat that I'm willing to share with the group but I'm not sure about copyright issues. Again I'd like to hear what other have to say on this issue.

Jim - I may not be the best one to offer an opinion as I painted mine Ferrari Rosa Corsa. I'll post pictures later today, but I had intended to hot First Annual SMC Engine Building Show rod mine from day one. The block and head is bright red and the valve covers are polished aluminum (almost looks like chrome.)

I went back and found these pictures from 2006. I haven't really looked at this engine block since I packed up my shop all those years ago.

This is what the Enzo's Revenge engine looked like when it was last photographed.

It'll be interesting to get her out this weekend.

Andy, I like where you're headed with this "hot rodded" approach. I'm thinking that I may take the same path with the Cosworth that Rick sent me...looks like great fun.

I got from the photographer a CD with about a 100 pictures of real engine and hydroplane......with the urgent request not to distribute them. Maybe your pictures have the same origin :-)
